One of the most admired composers in Israel, she has become known for her exquisite expression of Jewish and Israeli cultural and national identity in her music.
Her music, contemporary in constructional style is inspired by ancient Jewish and other early music traditions.
Betty Olivero returned to Israel in 2002 where she became the first woman composer in Israel to assume the post of a professor of composition at Bar Ilan University. She is also composer-in-residence for the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
Her music has been performed by many world-class orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBS Symphony Orchestra and numerous chamber music groups.
In the words of her former teacher Luciano Berio: "I think she is one of the most authentic musical forces now, one of the most self-aware and deeply connected to today's Jewish music. Israel should be proud of her."
According to Music Director of the Israel Philharmonic, Zubin Mehta, Betty Olivero is a major talent. "One of the best composers around," he said.
