IDF: Dozens of civilians killed in 'operational malfunctions' in Gaza
The IDF presented parts of inquiries made following Operation Cast Lead in Gaza saying that alongside the military achievements there were also incidents defined as "malfunctions" in which civilians were killed. In the most serious of the incidents, 21 members of the the al-Dayah family were killed in what the military called an "operational malfunction."
Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Harel said the scope of such incidents was relatively small. "In all our inquiries so far we have not found a single case in which an Israeli soldier intentionally targeted a Palestinian civilian. If such a case is fount, it will be handled with the utmost severity." (Hanan Greenberg)
