Attorney General Menachem Mazuz announced Monday that he plans to file another indictment against Hadash
Chairman Mohammad Barakeh – pending a hearing – for preventing police officers from exercising their duty.
The demonstration was also attended by Hadash activists, including Secretary-General Ayman Auda. The police tried to arrest Auda on suspicion of causing a disturbance.
The incident took place during a demonstration in Nazareth about a year and a half ago, as Defense Minister Ehdu Barak was visiting the northern city. The Labor chairman arrived to thank his supporters for electing him to lead the party, while dozens of family members of the October 2000 riots' victims were protesting outside the event.

Barakhe said at the time, "I shouted at the station commander and told him it was an irresponsible act." But according to Superintendent Aharon Gilor, head of the police fraud squad’s northern division, "The Knesset member tried to prevent the station commander from carrying out the arrest, calling him 'stupid' and telling him to 'shut your mouth.'"
The attorney general has summoned Barakeh to a hearing in two weeks in regards to a previous indictment which may be filed against him, on suspicion of attacking and preventing police officers from carrying out their duties during three different rallies – two held in Tel Aviv during the Second Lebanon War, and the third in the West Bank village of Bilin.
"The multitude of incidents due to my legitimate political activity points to the fact that the attorney general has been sent by non-legal elements to carry out a political role," Barakeh told Ynet on Tuesday morning.
"I'm proud of the fact that I am not a politician of the high echelon and not a politician who sits behind a table and rocks his chair. I am an elected representative, and as such I will continue fulfilling my duty on behalf of the people who elected me, and not as a messenger of the consensus Mazuz seeks to be part of," he added.
