Another swine flu patient released from hospital

Tel Aviv resident recovers just day after being admitted to hospital; his partner also released after testing negative for disease. Doctor says swine flu cases in Israel 'very mild'

A 34-year-old Tel Aviv resident who was the third Israeli to be diagnosed with swine flu was released Saturday evening from the Sourasky Medical Center, where he was held in isolation. His partner tested negative for the disease and was released as well.

Professor Yehuda Carmeli, head of the epidemiology unit at Sourasky, said the two were released despite Health Ministry guidelines stating that anyone who contracts the disease or is suspected of contracting it must remain in the hospital for at least a week after coming down with the flu's symptoms.

"Although it hasn’t been a week, both of them recovered a day after being admitted to the hospital, so we released them after consulting with the Health Ministry," he said.

"They'll complete their isolation period at home. They were specifically told to stay home and refrain from coming in contact with anyone."

Professor Carmeli said the swine flu cases in Israel have been "very mild".

It was further reported that a 33-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son were released from Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital Sunday night after it was determined that they had not contracted swine flu.

Earlier Sunday, a 20-year old from Holon was diagnosed with swine flu after having been admitted to Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv on Saturday. She has recently returned from Mexico, and arrived at the hospital suffering from flu symptoms.

She was the fourth Israeli to be diagnosed with the disease.

Another case of suspected swine flu also popped up in Israel Sunday as a three-year old girl from Jerusalem was isolated and the nursery school she attends was temporarily shut down.

The child returned from Mexico on April 27, prior to the opening of Ben Gurion International Airport's emergency medical clinic, so she was not examined upon arrival.
