Venezuela's Chavez slams Obama for Afghan attacks
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez slammed US President Barack Obama on Friday for air strikes in Afghanistan that killed scores of civilians. Afghan officials said 147 civilians died as a result of attacks by US warships on Taliban militants this week.
Chavez, a socialist, originally welcomed Obama's efforts to improve ties between Caracas and Washington, but now accuses the new US leader of maintaining an "imperialist" foreign policy. "President Obama... take apart the forces of imperialism and end the abuse of innocent peoples of the world," he said during a televised speech. (Reuters)
