Annual celebrations at Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai's burial site attract large crowds; 150 people injured during festivities

At 8:30 pm Monday the Admor of Boyan lit the first bonfire at Mount Meron, giving the signal to the opening of the annual celebrations at the burial site of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.

Some 400,000 people attended the festivities last night, and many more are expected to participate in two other major ceremonies at the place on Tuesday.

Magen David Adom paramedics treated some 150 people on Monday. Several of those in need of treatment had either fainted or were suffering from indigestion. In all 12 were evacuated to hospitals for further medical attention.
