5 dead in Kurdish rebel clash in Turkey

Two members of a Turkish state-backed militia and three Kurdish guerrillas were killed in a clash in southeast Turkey on Friday, security sources said.

They said the firefight between the 'village guards' militia and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels occurred in a mountainous area of Siirt province. The clash was continuing and military troops were sent to the area by helicopter, the sources said. (Reuters)
