IDF kills 2 terrorists in Gaza

IDF forces spot two armed Palestinians near Kerem Shalom Crossing in Gaza Friday morning; troops cross fence into Strip, two terrorists killed in subsequent shootout

An IDF force spotted two Palestinian suspects approaching the Gaza fence near the Kerem Shalom Crossing Friday morning. The troops crossed the fence and killed the two Palestinians following exchanges of fire.

After the shootout, weapons were recovered on the bodies of the two Palestinians. No injuries were reported among the soldiers.

The two terrorists were wearing flak jackets and carried hand grenades and Kalashnikov rifles, the army said. The troops also recovered an explosive device near the terrorists' bodies that was apparently intended to be placed on a nearby road patrolled by IDF forces.

Later Friday, an explosive device blew up near an IDF patrol in the northern Gaza Strip. No injuries or damages were reported in the incident. The Popular Front's Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack.

High alert

Despite the relative quiet that has prevailed in the area, terror groups have continued to stage attacks on occasion, and view attacks on IDF forces as legitimate at this time.

Forces in the Gaza Division have been instructed to maintain a high level of alert in case of surprise attacks, which often take the form of explosive devices aimed at targeting IDF troops traveling near Gaza.
