3 more swine flu cases diagnosed in Israel

26-year-old woman, men aged 28 and 22 diagnosed with H1N1 virus after returning from New York; WHO raises global tally of swine flu infections to 15,510

Two Israeli men, aged 28 and 22, who recently returned from the US were diagnosed Friday with the H1N1 virus, known as swine flu.

 

The 28-year-old returned to Tel Aviv (via London) on flight c762 from New York, which landed at Ben Gurion Airport at 11:15 am Thursday. He was admitted to the Laniado Hospital in Netanya.

 

The second swine flu patient returned from New York on Intercontinental flight 90, which landed in Tel Aviv at 6:30 pm Thursday. He was admitted to the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera.

 

The Health Ministry has asked that the remaining passengers of both flights be examined in case they come down with any flu-like symptoms.

 

Later on Friday it was reported that a 26-year-old Israeli woman who returned from the US Thursday on an El-Al flight was also diagnosed with the H1N1 virus, bringing the total number of Israelis who have been diagnosed with the disease to 17.

 

She was admitted to the to the isolation ward at Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in Jerusalem.

 

Thursday saw three more Israelis being diagnosed with swine flu. Two of them, a 59-year old man hospitalized in the Chaim Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer and a 34-year old man hospitalized in Kfar Saba's Meir Hospital, have recently returned from the US.

  

The third, a 33-year old man who recently returned from Panama, has also been hospitalized at Sheba. 

 

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization raised its global tally of swine flu infections to 15,510 Friday, an increase of more than 2,000 cases in two days.

 

The death toll increased by four since Wednesday to 99, the global body said.
