Romanian president: Syria expects to resume talks with Israel

Romanian President Traian Basescu told President Shimon Peres that Syrian President Bashar Assad is not interested in being affiliated with the "Iranian image" and expects to resume peace talks with Israel.

Peres responded by saying that "Assad is interested in breaking off from Syria's affiliation with Iran, but is not interested in breaking ties with Iran in practice. If he thinks he can enjoy all worlds – receive the Golan Heights on the one hand and bolster Hizbullah on the other hand – he is mistaken." (Roni Sofer)
