Syrian president appoints new defense minister

Syrian President Bashar Assad appointed a new defense minister on Wednesday, the official news agency said. Ali Habib, previously chief of the army general staff, replaces Hassan Turkmani in the post, the agency reported.
Assad, who has ruled Syria since his father Hafez Assad died in 2000, has already reshuffled the cabinet once this year, including changing the interior minister. (Reuters)
