US donates $55 million for Palestinian refugees
The UN agency that provides aid to Palestinian refugees says the US has agreed to donate an additional $55 million to the organization. The UN Relief and Works Agency provides health care, education, housing and humanitarian assistance to 4.7 million Palestinian refugees in the Middle East.
The agency said on its website that the US made the announcement Wednesday in Jordan during a meeting of a commission that deals with the group's financial needs. The contribution brings total US assistance to the organization in 2009 to $154.5 million. (AP)
