Gates: Russia helping NATO in Afghanistan
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday that Russia is helping the NATO-led war effort in
Afghanistan.
Gates said Moscow is rightfully concerned about the narcotics coming out of Afghanistan and by the dangers posed to its own security by religious extremists. Russia has allowed the US and other NATO allies to use its territory to transport logistic supplies to the international forces in Afghanistan. Western officials have urged Moscow to help the Afghan government with weapons and spare parts. (AP)
