Israel will be flooded with the flavor of Australia for one week in June with a program titled G’Day Shalom Salaam Israel, presented by the Australia Israel Cultural Exchange.

Jazz concerts, classical music recitals, some of the best Australian films on offer, a three-hat chef and the launch of the Australia Israel Leadership Forum is a true celebration of Australia and the ongoing relationship between the two countries. All will take place at the G’Day Shalom Salaam celebrations.

Featured among the musical items will be concerts given by the dazzling classical virtuoso pianist David Helfgott who will perform in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Making his Israel performance debut is jazz legend Paul Grabowsky who was born in 1958 in Papua New Guinea but grew up in Melbourne. He is a fine pianist and composer whose works have covered international territory in film, television to jazz and beyond.

Considered to be Australia’s premier jazz pianist and composer, Joe Chindamo will also perform during the celebratory week. Born in Melbourne, the son of Italian immigrants, Joe Chindamo fell in love with music at an early age. At 13 years, he won a TV Talent Quest and just one year later, another Talent Quest. He has previously toured in Israel when his performance was broadcast throughout the country.

The Australia Israel Cultural Exchange (AICE) was launched at a unique official ceremony in 2002. A joint declaration announcing the supporting its establishment took place simultaneously in Parliament House, Canberra and in the Knesset in Jerusalem. It was the first time such a Joint Declaration had been made between Australia and Israel.

The aims of AICE are to promote Israeli culture in Australia and Australian culture in Israel to the widest possible communities. Culture is defined as artistic pursuits – literature, film, music, visual and plastic arts, drama, dance and architecture.
