The UK premier added that London's future relations with Tehran will stand on three things: Its ability to prove that the presidential elections were held in a fair manner, observing human rights and maintaining freedom of the press.

Earlier, Britain called in Iran's ambassador to complain about comments about the British by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the government said. Rasoul Movahedian, Tehran's envoy to London, has been summoned to meet Mark Lyall Grant, political director at the Foreign Office, a Foreign Office spokeswoman said.

She said Lyall Grant would complain over Khamenei's comments on Friday when he attacked what he called interference by foreign powers which had questioned the result of last week's presidential election and called the British "Sinister".

Britain's Foreign Office said Friday it has asked Iran's ambassador in London to attend a meeting to explain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments about UK policy.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who also attended the Brussels meeting, said she too watched Khamenei's address, and was "disappointed."
