ECI wins $70M bid in India
Israeli Telecom awarded multi-million dollar contract by New Delhi's Tata Teleservice to provide it with wide variety of bandwidth intensive services
Israel's ECI Telecom was awarded a $70 million contract by India's Tata Teleservices (TTSL) last week, to deliver fixed-broadband access network across India.
ECI has already begun providing TTSL with the service in India, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Vizag, Vijayawada, Surat and Baroda.
ECI's broadband solution would enable TTSL to offer a wider range of applications, including IPTV, video on demand (VOD), high speed broadband internet, VoIP and other bandwidth intensive services.
"We are providing the infrastructure for Tata Teleservices to roll out bandwidth services across the country," ECI Telecom country manager, Kiran Pande said.
The company has been operating in India for five years, during which it has provided network infrastructure solutions, including wireless backhaul, WiMax and broadband access, as well as transport solutions.
According a TTSL statement, ECI's network solution would support a connectivity speed of up to 18 megabit per second (Mbps), a unit to measure broadband speed.
Tata Teleservices president and chief technology officer AG Rao said that ECI's expertise and in-depth understanding of broadband access solutions were key factors in the company's decision to choose ECI for the important project.
