Three young innovative Israeli composer/performers explore the roots of Hebrew prayer and song in their ancient and modern expressions in an attempt to adapt it, on the one hand, to the changing patterns of life over time and, on the other, to the expression of each individual.
The group, Tafillalt Ensemble,
navigate the multi-cultural sound spectrum of modern 21st century Israel and present a unique interpretation of various traditional and modern Jewish materials including sacred Hebrew poetry from North Africa and the Middle East, Hassidic Niggunim, modern secular Hebrew poetry, together with original musical and literary compositions.
Tafillalt was established in the year 2000 in Jerusalem is now an internationally acclaimed musical ensemble. The three members of the group are all multi-talented musicians. Yair Harel – percussion and voice; Nori Jacoby – viola and voice; Yonatan Niv, cello and voice.
Critic Michael Wolpe commented he enjoyed the very natural combination between traditional tunes and original Hebrew songs. “Poetry from the heart and intimate,” he said.
