Are You Being Served? star Mollie Sugden dies
Are You Being Served? star Mollie Sugden has died aged 86. The actress, best known for playing Mrs, Slocombe in the BBC's 70s sitcom, passed away at Royal Surrey Hospital after a long illness, with her twin sons Robin and Simon Moore at her bedside.
Sugden was best known for playing battleaxes in comedies, breaking through as snobbish mum Mrs Hutchinson in The Liver Birds in 1971 before taking on her most famous role as Mrs Slocombe - the blue-rinsed dowager who famously referred to her cat as her pussy - in Are You Being Served? from 1972.
