Veteran singer and performer Sassi Keshet released an album of liturgy and cantillation this week, which for him marks a return to his childhood and the Jewish songs his parents used to listen to.

"The liturgy and chants have been inside me for years. My parents, who came here from Russia and Poland to build a kibbutz, didn't forget to bring with them their collection of cantors' albums, which I used to listen to throughout my childhood."

According to 61-year-old Keshet, "This album is a gesture to my parents. I started collecting various songs and prayers… and eventually compiled a list of songs that have accompanied me for many years, and that are of an Ashkenazi flavor. This is what I grew up with."

The album, titled, "Open a Gate for Us," was produced by Keshet's son, Ariel
