Kadima MKs: Netanyahu easily pressured

Party leading Opposition marks 100 days since inception of Likud government, as Kadima Knesset members accuse PM of being weak and inconsistent. 'How long will it take us to remedy the damages?' asks MK Itzik

The Kadima party marked 100 days since the inception of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government and of the faction being in the opposition at a special press conference it held Wednesday.

During the event Kadima MKs Dalia Itzik, Meir Sheetrit, Nachman Shai and Yoel Hasson presented a new slogan: "Bibi: 100 days, zero accomplishments. It's the same old Bibi." MK Itzik said that the prime minister was easily pressured and "squeezed."

According to MK Hasson, "Every day here is a parliamentary and democratic nightmare. This prime minister relies on political payoffs and handing out jobs." Hasson said that Netanyahu's "dream team" for the elections has disappeared and that his government is gradually collapsing.

Itzik charged that "Any link between making promises and keeping them is nonexistent. There is no consistency, no strategy, and only short-term solutions that stem from pressure, which is very reminiscent of Netanyahu's first term in office."

According to the former Knesset speaker, the prime minister has made the Palestinians to appear "peace seekers," while Israel is now perceived as the one refusing to make peace. "Howe long will it take us to remedy the damages?" she asked.

MK Sheetrit focused on the budget, which he said, "Benefits the strong and screws the weak, it is unjust and not good. Kadima's decision not to join the government has proven to be the right move."

Kadima Chairwoman Tzipi Livni, who did not attend the press conference, already made her opinion of Netanyahu's performance very clear this week.

Speaking at the Knesset Monday after filing a motion of non-confidence, Livni said: "This could have been a period of hope and new beginnings. That's how it happens in countries across the sea, and that's not how it happens in Israel. Not in this government."

She added that the public was despairing of the coalition and that "the government's failures are exposed to all."
