Victim of injustice

Media reports on Netanyahu’s ‘meddling wife’ were never substantiated

Let’s talk about the prime minister’s wife, Sara Netanyahu. Despite my acquaintance with her, I do not think it would be unfair for me to speak out in her defense at a time when, in my view at least, she is a victim of injustice.

Over the past 12 years, we heard many claims that Sara is influential and meddling, yet we were never presented with even one specific case where she supposedly made a decision that had any sort of genuine influence on our lives.

We never heard anyone claim that, in respect to a specific diplomatic or political affair, or even in respect to some insignificant bureaucratic affair, Sara Netanyahu got unduly involved and ultimately made the decision.

We always heard reports about her close associates and about her general tendency to interfere. However, I fail to recall even one concrete and meaningful case where the State did or did not do something important because Sara Netanyahu made the decision in that case.

Everything we have heard until today was tantamount to folkloristic tales and gossip.

From what I know and have seen, Sara Netanyahu dedicates almost all her time to her work as a psychologist, to caring for her children, and to providing devoted care to her father.

Some of the employees at the Prime Minister’s Office indeed know her quite well, (just like former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s close aide, Shula Zaken, is a friend of Olmert’s wife Aliza, and just like close Rabin aide Shimon Sheves was very close to Rabin’s wife Leah).

Yet despite the above, the media injustice done to her is, in my view, deep, overwhelming, and incommensurate with reality.
