Osem expanding hummus activity in UK

Israeli food corporation acquires British kosher food distributor Yarden GB for NIS 12 million in bid to expand Tzabar Salads' activity in British market

The Osem food corporation controlled by Nestle has acquired the business activity of British kosher food distributor Yarden GB, through its Osem UK subsidiary.

As part of the acquisition, Osem also purchased the Yarden brand, fixed assets and reputation in England for 1.9 million pounds ($3.14 million). Osem will make another payment for the company's inventory.

Osem said in a statement to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange that Yarden's sales turnover stood at 7 million pounds ($12 million) in 2008. Osem noted that Yarden's clients include the Tesco, Sainsbury and Waitrose chains.

The company wrote that part of Yarden's activity included marketing Tzabar Salads (including the popular hummus dish) in the British kingdom, and that its acquisition by Osem UK would enable operational, logistic, marketing and administrative synergy in terms of the activity in England.

Osem also noted that acquiring Yarden's activity would make it possible to expand Tzabar Salad's activity in the British market.
