Israeli tourists mugged in Rhodes

Foreign Ministry learns that group of Israelis touring Greek island was mugged by locals believed to be Greek or Arab. No official complaint filed with Rhodes Police

A group of Israeli tourists got into a squabble with some 20 locals while on the Greeks island of Rhodes, the Foreign Ministry learned Wednesday.

According to initial information, three Israelis touring the island apparently came across a group of 20 locals, believed to be of Greek or Arab origin. An altercation soon followed, and the locals reportedly mugged the Israelis.

The three then returned to the Festival cruise liner they came aboard, gathered some of their friends and returned to the scene of the fight.

The quickly located the locals who mugged them, started fighting with them again, and were able to reclaim some of their property. They then boarded the Festival once more and left the island, en route to the Isle of Marmaris.

The Caspi cruise liner's crew reported the incident to the Transportation Ministry's security department, which relayed the information to the Foreign Ministry.

The ministry and the Israeli Consulate in Athens have asked the Rhodes Police for details, but the latter reported that no complaint was filed by either party.
