'Lebanon' to be screened at Toronto Festival

Shmulik Maoz's film about tank crew's experiences during first day of Lebanon War to participate at festival under prestigious 'Visions' program

The Israeli film "Lebanon" by director Shmulik Maoz will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the event's prestigious "Visions" program in September.

The movie's world premiere will be held at the Venice International Film Festival earlier in the month.

According to the festival's organizers, "Works presented under the Visions banner are films from around the world by filmmakers who push the boundaries and challenge our notions of mainstream cinema."

"Lebanon" tells the story of a tank crew on the first, chaotic day of the first Lebanon War.

The film will also be screened at the New York International Film Festival, which opens at the end of September.

Other Israeli films that have been chosen to participate in the Toronto festival include: "Google Baby" by Zippi Brand-Frank, " The Time that Remains" by Elia Suleiman, "Eyes Wide Open" by Haim Tabakman and "Five Hours from Paris" by Leon Prudovsky.

Eight other movies dedicated to the city of Tel Aviv will also be screened at the festival, including: Danny Lerner's "Kirot," "Phobidilia" by Yoav and Doron Paz and such classics as "Big Eyes" and "Blaumilch Canal."
