Restaurant offers kosher food for trips abroad
An efficient solution for kashrut observers accustomed to carrying canned food in their suitcases: A large variety of main courses, side dishes and deserts, which are frozen, packed in a special picnic box and can last through flights of up to 12 hours
Observers of kashrut flying abroad are familiar with this problem: Packing canned food and soup powder in order to survive a trip to countries with few, or no, kosher restaurants. But the people of the Beit Haochel restaurant in Kibbutz Einat have found an efficient solution for this.
You can now leave the canned food at home (in case of a long weekend), or at least reduce the quantities (in case of a longer trip) and take restaurant food with you abroad, assuming it won't encounter overly strict security checks at the airport you land in.
Beit Haochel prepares a large variety of main courses, side dishes and deserts, freezes them and packs them in special picnic boxes, which enable travelers to transfer the food in a suitcase, without cooling, on flights of up to 12 hours. Once you arrive at your destination, all you have to do is defrost and heat the food.
The package reaches the customer's house on the day of the flight. The meal is built as a menu for two, it is meant to last you for three days, and includes dishes such as baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, moussaka, rice, stuffed cabbage and peppers, meatballs, fried fish, a family-sized carrot cake, and more.
The price is NIS 350 (about $92), including the picnic box and the delivery fee. The menu is flexible and can be adjusted for a longer stay and for a larger number of people.
Beit Haochel recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Issta tour operator, so anyone ordering their trip through this company will receive a NIS 100 ($26) reduction when ordering the food. In addition, the restaurant has a virtual store for ordering ready food home.
