MK Danon denounces Livni's VIP ticket to Madonna

Opposition chairwoman dined with pop diva and attended her concert. However, Likud MK calls this and appeals to Knesset Ethics Committee. Livni's associates: Claims are absurd

MK Danny Danon (Likud) submitted a complaint Wednesday to the Knesset Ethics Committee against Knesset Opposition Chairwoman Tzipi Livni, claiming that the VIP ticket she received to the Madonna show was an unfair kickback.

Livni's associates declined to respond to the claims, calling them ludicrous.

MK Danny Danon said in a conversation with Ynet, "I learned from civilians who attended the show that the opposition chairwoman watched the concert from a special section for which tickets could not be purchased and whose value, if they were to be sold, is estimated at thousands of shekels. This is in poor taste, in my eyes."

In a letter he sent to the Knesset Ethics Committee, Danon wrote, "Acceptance of this kickback stands in utter contradiction to the decisions of the Ethics Committee on the issue of illegal receipt of gifts."

Livni and Madonna met the night of the concert and dined together in a Tel Aviv restaurant. Sources close to Livni reported that Livni was subsequently personally invited to the concert by Madonna and that she purchased a pair of tickets with money out of her own pocket for her and her husband. She reportedly paid NIS 490 ($130) for both tickets.

When Livni arrived at the concert, Madonna's entourage escorted her to a dedicated section for the pop star's family and friends. Tickets for seats in this exclusive section were not put up for sale, and the only way of entering was through personal invitation from Madonna herself.
