Violence in Germany: German police arrested 60 people after 12 officers were hurt in riots that broke out during a left-wing march against the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD) in the night, police said on Saturday.
About 6,000 left-wing supporters marching against an NPD gathering in the northern port of Hamburg had tried to break through barriers to reach the roughly 90 neo-Nazis, said a police spokesman.
The left-wing protesters hurled stones and iron bars at the police and set fire to barricades and rubbish bins near the main station. Police fought them off with truncheons and a warning shot was fired when rioters attacked a patrol car.
The police said they expect further disturbances during a street festival on Saturday evening.
