Israeli photographer Tamir Sher was invited to present his works at the Photoquai Biennale of World Images opening in Paris on September 22. The exhibit will be open for three months and show works from non-western artists.

Sher is the only Israeli among 40 artists from spots around the world, including Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, and Morocco. He was invited by Iranian curator, Anahita Ghabaian, who has the distinction of owning the only gallery for modern photography in Tehran.

"The selection for Photoquai 2009 aims to be poetic, but could not avoid major current affairs topics," wrote Ghabaian of the exhibit. "My greatest ambition is to offer a new viewpoint on the Other, without any preconceptions, far-removed from clichés, and to participate in creating conditions for a true dialogue."

"I am happy to have the opportunity to take part in a dialogue with neighboring, but far away, artists. The curator received a free hand from me to choose the works for the Biennale," said Sher, who explained that the choices were later sharpened in joint dialogue together.

"I am very interested in the new interpretation and meaning my works receive when presented as part of a new setting, and not necessary part of a New York or Tel Aviv gallery," said Sher, whose works will be presented along the Seine River in special huts built especially for the Biennale.

Sher, born in 1966, has presented in a number of exhibits in Israel and around the world including in the Herzliya Museum, in Tel Aviv's Gal-On Gallery, Chelsea's Point of View, and others.
