Popular video sharing website YouTube's "YouTube/EDU" project will soon feature 45 new institutions in its roster, including several Israeli
ones.
The project, launched in March, brings together thousands of free lectures from dozens of universities in the US, including MIT, Yale, Harvard and Stanford.
YouTube/EDU will soon include lectures given by the Hebrew University, the Israeli Institute of Technology, Tel Aviv University and the Open University.
The lectures featured will include a vast rage of disciplines, such as humanities, business, engineering, arts and history.
YouTube is a Google video channel. Meir Brand, CEO of Google Israel, told Calcalist that "One of Google's mission statement is allowing access to information. Education is key in achieving this goal.
"We are happy to be able to use our innovative tools in order to allow surfers better access to educational and academic content."
Prof. Yoav Yair. Director of the Center for Technology in Distance Education at the Open University added: "YouTube/EDU allows those seeking it free access to academic content of the highest level. This is an important enriching addition to the courses we offer."
