Draft foreign policy: No point trying to reach permanent peace agreement

The Foreign Ministry's political staff submitted a document outlining the recommended foreign policy for the upcoming years to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. The document claimed that there is no point in trying to reach a permanent settlement with the Palestinians, but rather efforts should be invested in reaching an interim agreement in order to prevent US and European frustration as well as to stave off Palestinian violence.

The document also read that Israel must renew its efforts to establish ties with continents and countries that have been abandoned for decades, with an emphasis on Latin America, Africa, the Balkans, and east Asia – including the moderate Muslim countries. (Roni Sofer)
