Qassam hits open area in western Negev

Explosion heard near Sdot Negev, Shaar Hanegev regional councils after rocket launched from Gaza; no injuries or damage reported

A Qassam rocket was fired Sunday evening from the northern Gaza Strip into Israel. The Color Red alert system was activated in the Shaar Hanegev and Sdot Negev regional council, and the rocket landed in an open area.

Local residents reported hearing an explosion. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

The rocket alert system was also activated earlier Sunday, at around 11 am. According to initial reports, a rocket had exploded in an open area near the border fence, but the police later said the alert was apparently a false alarm.

Last week, after a rocket hit an open area in southern Israel, Air Force jets attacked two weapon smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces reported that all the targets were hit. The Palestinians said three people were injured in the strike.
