An indictment was filed Thursday against an Arad resident who is suspected of throwing a woman who decided to end her affair with him out of his second floor apartment window.
The indictment indicates that 41-year-old Alfredo Chaves was romantically involved with the woman while she was in the midst of a separation from her husband. Several days prior to the incident, which occurred 10 days ago, the woman decided to end the relationship but agreed to Chaves' invitation to come over to his apartment for a drink.
The two met in Chaves' apartment and later went to her apartment to bring a bottle of vodka. Chaves then suggested that the woman bring her belongings, including a DVD player, to his flat.
According to the charges, the two returned to the defendant's home, at which point Chaves locked the woman up in a room. When the woman's husband arrived in search of his wife Chaves told him he did not know where she was.
After Chaves fell asleep the woman woke him and asked that he let her out. Upon his refusal she took the DVD player and sat at the window's ledge, threatening to jump unless he released her. "No problem, let me help you," he allegedly replied and proceeded to push her out the window. He also threw out the DVD.
The woman sustained moderate wounds after falling 8 meters (roughly 26 foot) to the ground. A taxicab driver who noticed her lying on the ground called the police the next morning.
The woman was evacuated by a Magen David Adom emergency unit to the Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba with spine injuries and fractures to her foot and pelvis.
