Maccabi Tel Aviv 'upset' over locker room theft

Israeli basketball team ends its NBA tour on sour note after their money, belongings are stolen from Staples Center arena, LA Times reports

Maccabi Tel Aviv players ended their NBA tour on a sour note as they had money and belongings stolen from their locker room at Staples Center arena, according to the Los Angeles Times.

 

The alleged theft occurred during the Israel sports club's game Tuesday night against the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers.

 

Staples Center arena spokesman Michael Roth did not return phone calls to AFP on Thursday.

 

The newspaper said the Los Angeles police were notified of the incident which was reported at halftime of the 108-96 loss to the Clippers. Los Angeles' Central Division police department also did not return calls.

 

The Staples Center game was the second of two exhibitions games Maccabi Tel Aviv played against NBA clubs. The first game was a 106-91 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

 

The New York game was delayed for eight minutes when Maccabi Tel Aviv coach Pini Gershon was tossed out of the game for arguing calls.

 

Staples Center is owned and operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group and is home to several American sports teams, including the Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA and the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings.
