Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that despite an announcement by his authority that Palestinian elections would be held in January, he still believed a truce with Hamas was possible.
Speaking before members of the PLO council in Ramallah, he said the announcement was not a tactical move, and that "our hand is still extended towards an inter-Palestinian truce". (Ali Waked)
