Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz responded to explanations by Minister Dan Meridor about why he prevented a government vote on a bill necessitating a referendum prior to any withdrawal from Israeli land.
"This is a rightist government and it must preserve the Golan Heights by promoting this bill," he said. "Sharon thwarted a referendum regarding the evacuation of Gush Katif because he feared its results, and the Knesset must learn a painful lesson and prevent the future possibility of withdrawal against the people's wishes."
