The police lifted the terror alert declared Wednesday afternoon in the greater Sharon region.

Roadblocks that had been set up earlier were removed and police officers deployed mostly in the Arab-Israeli town of Tayibe, located in Israel's Triangle area. Roadblocks set up at the entrance to the town were removed a short while later.

Police were on the highest alert level in the Sharon region for several hours Wednesday, and roadblocks were set up at the entrance to cities and on main traffic arteries. Police also scanned various areas in the region.

"There are many security personnel here," a Tayibe resident told Ynet earlier. "It is impossible to leave or enter the city; everything is shut down and only ambulances are permitted to leave.

"We sense that something big is happening here, but we don’t know what it is," he said.

Other residents said security forces had asked locals to remain indoors.

Heavy traffic was reported along highways 6 and 4 and on other main roads in the Sharon due to the roadblocks that were set up in region earlier.
