Israeli security elements inspected the security level in India's Goa coast following recent alerts warning of threats to Israelis, the Times of India newspaper reported local security officials as saying.

A senior official with the Indian police said, "They will obviously want to see the security arrangement here after what happened in Mumbai. Mumbai is only 500 km away. And a lot of tourists from Israel visit Goa." He could not specify how many Israeli officers arrived in the city.

The police official also added that there were two Chabad centers north of Goa that have increased their security measures.

"We are taking every precaution and have made substantial arrangements for the safety of every tourist coming to the state," he said and added that the Israeli security elements visited those locations.

Israel issued a travel alert last month warning travelers of possible attacks on Israeli tourists in India.

The alert read, "The terror threat in India has increased substantially. The concrete threat includes areas with concentrations of Israelis and westerners, Chabad centers, and synagogues across India including the Goa region."
