Israeli wholesalers are expected to begin importing cucumbers from Jordan next week due to the shortage caused by the recent weather fluctuations.

The Ministry of Agriculture has issued permits allowing vegetable importers and wholesalers to import cucumbers form Jordan for a two-week period, this after the Plants Production and Marketing Board said an even greater shortage in cucumbers is expected over the next 10 days.

Vegetable prices increased by as much as 200% last week after a recent heat wave was followed by torrential rains.

Experts estimate that prices will drop and that the overall price-hike will level out at 100%.
