Homeless man threatens to commit suicide outside Knesset

Man arrives at entrance to Knesset compound parking lot, apprehended by security personnel. At least one gas canister found in his car

A homeless man threatened to detonate himself at the entrance to the Knesset's parking lot Tuesday morning.

 

The man, who arrived by car at the parking lot's entrance on Kaplan Street in Jerusalem at around 10 am and said he was in possession of a number of gas canisters, was apprehended at the scene by police officers and Knesset Guard personnel. There were no reports of injury.

 

At least one gas tank was found during a subsequent search of the man's car.

Police said the man considered suicide after his family was evicted from a Jerusalem apartment.

 

Following the incident, police blocked all entrances to the compound.

 

In April 2008 a woman who threatened to kill herself outside the Knesset building was convinced not to do so by then Knesset Director-General Avi Balashnikov.

 

The woman demanded that the State purchase wheelchairs for her handicapped children.
