4 gunmen injured in IDF strike in Gaza

Hours after mortar barrage on western Negev, Palestinian emergency services report IAF jet attacked targets near Jabaliya refugee camp; two of injured said to be in serious condition. Army says hit terror cell preparing to launch rocket at Israel

At least four Palestinian gunmen were injured Friday morning in an Israeli air raid in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian emergency services reported.

The strike took place near the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, and two of the injured was said to be in serious condition. One of the injured belongs to the Jaljalat Islamist group which split for Hamas and is considered even more radical.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that an Israel Air Force jet attacked a cell of terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip, which was preparing to fire rockets at Israel. The activity was carried out with the help of the Shin Bet security service. The launcher and the cell members were all hit.

The reported strike took place several hours after five mortar shells were fired by Palestinian gunmen in Gaza on Thursday evening towards the Eshkol Regional Council in Israel's Negev area. The shells landed in open areas. There were no reports of injury or damage.

A terror attack was thwarted overnight Thursday when IDF soldiers stationed near the border with Egypt spotted a man carrying a rucksack containing an explosive device weighing 15 kilograms (33 pounds).

IDF reservists operating near Eilat ordered the man to stop, and then proceeded with the army's arrest procedure, which included gunfire. The terrorist tossed the rucksack and fled the scene.

Soldiers who searched the area found the rucksack, and sappers conducted as controlled-detonation of the bomb, which was apparently meant to be used to carry out a terror attack within Israeli territory.
