Israeli singer-songwriter nominated for Grammy

Israeli singer and songwriter Oren Lavie has been nominated for a Grammy award for best music video for his song Her Morning Elegance.

The unique music video, which debuted a year ago, has drawn enthusiastic reactions worldwide. It was made up of a sequence of photographs taken by Eyal Landesman and directed by Lavie, along with Yuval and Merav Natan.

The other nominees in the prestigious Best Music Video category are big names in the music world such as Coldplay, Depeche Mode and the Black Eyed Peas.

Lavie is currently working on his second English album and also began recording songs in Hebrew, following what he calls his "great love to Tel Aviv."

Lavie received the good news Wednesday evening, while hanging out in a guitar store, in a phone call from his friends who saw the press release.

"I didn't know they were going to announce the nominees," Lavie told Ynet from Los Angeles, where he currently resides, "And even if I had known, I would have not thought to look for my name on that list."

How does it feel?

"I don't know, it's nice so far. It's nice to do something and have good things happen. We worked hard on the music video."

You are competing against Coldplay, Depeche Mode and Black Eyed Peas.

"It's very interesting. I was surprised they put my clip next to such commercial artists. I think it's a brave move to nominate a young, new artist who is not even American.

"On the other hand, this video made more noise than any of the other nominees. I believe that because the music industry is mainly centered in Los Angeles, which is the city I live and perform in, there is a certain awareness to my existence as an artist here, more so than any place else. "

Will you attend the ceremony?

"I believe so. I haven't received an invitation yet."

Do you own a tuxedo?

"No, but I'm curious to see how I would look in one."
