The State Prosecutor's Office on Sunday asked the Supreme Court for more time to explore the evidence gathered in the pending case against Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

In 2008, the foreign minister filed a High Court appeal asking it to order the Attorney General's Office to conclude a near-seven year investigation against him.

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz subsequently ordered the proceeding be sped up, and in August the police recommended Lieberman be indicted for fraud, bribery, fraudulently obtaining benefits, money laundering and breach of trust.

Once the recommendations were files, the Supreme Court ordered the prosecution to notify it of its final decision within three months. Sunday's brief asked the court for more time.

"In the three months since the police recommendation in the case the prosecution's financial division has been studying the evidence… a recent legal brief reviewing the evidence has been filed with the state prosecutor and the attorney general," said the prosecution.

The final decision in Lieberman's case is likely to be deferred to Attorney General-designate Yehuda Weinstein, who will take office in two months.
