US official asks EU to reject Swedish proposal on division of Jerusalem
Ranking minority member of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, sent a letter to foreign ministers of the European Union calling on them to reject a proposition to recognize east Jerusalem as the future capital of a Palestinian state.
Ros-Lehtinen wrote in her latter that Jerusalem has been a symbol of religious freedom for 42 years. EU ministers are scheduled to convene Tuesday to discuss the proposal, made by Sweden. (AFP)
