2 Ramla residents arrested for stoning cars
Police say Juarish neighborhood residents throwing stones at vehicles travelling along Highway 431 are protesting demolition of illegal structures
Two residents of Ramla's Juarish neighborhood were arrested on Tuesday for suspicion of throwing stones at vehicles traveling along Highway 431.
Drivers had complained of stone-throwing in the area on several different occasions, but on Tuesday Ramla police were quick to respond and apprehended the suspects.
Highway 431, which connects Ramla to nearby moshavim, was opened a few months ago. According to police, residents of Juarish, an Arab neighborhood, have been stoning vehicles in protest of the demolition of illegal structures in the neighborhood.
No injuries have been reported in these incidents.
A number of teens who were caught throwing stones at vehicles on Highway 431a few weeks were recently indicted.
"Stone-throwing can result in death," said a Ramla Police official, "It's not as if they can aim at the vehicle's roof. If a rock directly hits someone who is driving fast, his or her chances of surviving are slim - not to mention the threat of car accidents."
