New exhibit displays 2009's best cartoons
Holon Cartoon Museum to host 150 caricatures, cartoons created by Israel's best artists in 2009
The Israel Cartoon Museum in Holon is planning an exhibit entitled '2009: The Year That Was', which will host 150 caricatures by 35 Israeli artists representing major events in the country in the past year.
"The harvest from this one year is very rich and varying in opinion and position, style, technique, and innovation," says Dan Patir, curator of the exhibit.

"On the other hand, the artists do not allow one to live and act as though on a desert island – the immediate and the more distant are properly expressed in the 2009 exhibit."
Michel Kishka, president of the Israel Cartoonists' Union, said there was not enough room in the museum to display all of the cartoons worthy of being included and that the curator had "filtered" the works extensively.

"As with gold diggers, the large and valuable golden nuggets stay in the filter," she said. The positioning of these golden nuggets one next to the other in the Holon Cartoon Museum makes this exhibit into one giant bar of gold," Kishka said.
An additional exhibit opening at the museum next month will honor cartoonists Boris Erenburg and Sergey Sichenko. The exhibit, 'A Caricature in 22 Letters', will display the works of the two Russian immigrants, who have earned many international awards for their work.
