PM rejects statements made about Ashkenazi by his office official

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he vehemently rejects statements attributed in the media to a senior official in his office claiming that Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi is behaving like the "chairman of the soldiers' parents' association" during Shalit talks.

A statement issued by Netanyahu's office said, "The prime minister appreciates the actions of Maj. Gen. Ashkenazi in leading the IDF and his position regarding returning Gilad Shalit alive and well. The chief of staff's position stems clearly and unequivocally from a sincere concern for the security of Israel." (Attila Somfalvi)
