Pines: Chametz law amendment religious coercion

None

Labor MK Ophir Pines announced that he would try to advance a bill proposal to cancel the Chametz Law which prohibits the sale of leavened foods during Passover. Pines' announcement came amid the Shas party's plans to amend the law by Passover 2010.

"We have grown tired of religious legislation that hurts the status-quo. Shas wants to stiffen the existing law, which has no place in a modern country's law book. Shas' law will cause unnecessary antagonism instead of bringing people closer to tradition. This is outrageous religious coercion," he said. (Amnon Meranda)
