Chief rabbis convene against High Court 'meddling' in kashrut issues

Israel's chief rabbis and religious members of Knesset convened in an emergency session following what they called "High Court meddling in kashrut issues." They also sought to promote MK Yaacov Katz's bill to establish the Chief Rabbinate as the sole body authorized to make decisions on the matter.

The meeting's participants are opposed to the High Court's ruling last month that stipulated that the Ashdod municipality nominate a rabbi who will grant a kosher certificate to a restaurant owned by a Messianic Jew. (Kobi Nahshoni)
