Report: Leader of Yemeni al-Qaeda cell killed

The leader of a Yemeni al-Qaeda cell has been killed in clashes with Yemeni security forces, Yemen's state news agency said on Wednesday.

It quoted the governor of Yemen's Shabwa province as identifying the militant as Abdullah al-Mehdar. The agency said his home had been surrounded on Tuesday by security forces and he died following an exchange of fire. (Reuters)
