Sheikh Salah gets 9 months in jail for assaulting officer

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court sentenced head of the Islamic Movement's northern branch Sheikh Raed Salah to nine months imprisonment and six months probation for rioting and assaulting a police officer some three years ago.

 

"This is a significant sentence, in order to clarify to the defendant the severity of the offence he committed," Judge Yitzhak Shimoni said. In addition, Salah was ordered to pay NIS 7,500 (Some $2,000) to the officer his spit on in February 2007. (Ronen Medzini)
